With the Shop Jordans 2022 entire “Banned” story being thoroughly told through 2016’s re-release of the Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG, Jordan Brand is now focusing on other methods to purvey the rebellious attitude of Nike and its star when the NBA first prohibited the shoes on the court. This “Couture” iteration sees a traditional Air Jordan 1 build in a compliant all black, partly covered by a large red bar above the Swoosh logo. The story of the Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG starts on the court in 1985, redefining the basketball shoe's relationship to style as a symbol of triumph and culture. Launched in February 2019, this 'Couture' edition takes cues from luxury Italian sports cars with a racing stripe.
This Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG Defiant Couture comes dressed in a Black, Gym Red, and Muslin color scheme. It features a Black leather upper with a Red Banned-like bold paint mark covering the Swoosh logo. Finishing of the design are Nike Air tongue labels with matching Black Wings on the upper ankle atop a Muslin-colored rubber sole.Perhaps the message of this design is that despite the league trying to cover up the brand, it only contributed to the marketing as the Air Jordan 1 stood out and became one of the most well-known pop-culture references in sports and sneaker history.
The women’s Air Jordan 11 Animal Instinct treats Tinker Hatfield’s original 1995 design to a wildlife-inspired makeover. The mid-top’s signature patent leather overlay is replaced by a furry ivory-colored overlay, finished in a medley of cheetah, leopard and zebra prints in black. The extended eye stay accents in grosgrain material, the laces, the collar, the tongue and even the Jumpman logo embossed on the lateral heel are all in background black. A stylised “23” logo pops out in red on the black mesh heel tab. The midsole is a clean white and the outsole is a translucent light grey, finishing the look.
